Subject:

Duke Energy Carolinas LLC (Duke)

Oconee Nuclear Station, Unit 2 Docket No: 50-270 Relief Request No. 09-ON-006 Relief Request from Immediate ASME Code Flaw Repair of Standby Shutdown Facility Auxiliary Service Water Piping On August 18, 2009, Duke Energy Carolinas LLC (Duke) discovered an issue with Standby Shutdown Facility Auxiliary Service Water System which led to discovery of a through-wall pin hole leak in a buried portion of the system piping. By letter dated September 24, 2009 (ADAMS ML092740312), Duke submitted relief request 09-ON-006 because an immediate code compliant repair/replacement activity would be a hardship.

Subsequently, the affected section of piping was replaced (a code compliant repair) and the system returned to a fully operable status on October 1, 2009.

In relief request 09-ON-006, Duke requested exigent review and approval. Since the repairs are now complete, Duke sees no continued need for exigent review.

If there are any questions or further information is needed you may contact Randy Todd at (864) 873-3418.

Very truly yours, D
