SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 UPDATE OF COMMITMENT REGARDING EQUIPMENT QUALIFICATION BOUNDING POST LOCA PROFILES

1. Letter logged TXX-08031, dated February 21, 2008, from Mike Blevins of Luminant Power to the NRC.
2. Letter logged TXX-08067, dated April 17, 2008, from Mike Blevins of Luminant Power to the NRC.

Dear Sir or Madam:

Per letter TXX-08031 (Reference 1), Luminant Generation Company LLC (Luminant Power) committed to incorporate bounding pressure and temperature profiles for Comanche Peak Steam Electric Station, herein referred to as Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant (CPNPP), equipment qualification (EQ) into design drawings (commitment number 3458484) regarding CPNPP Units 1 and 2. This was completed for Unit 1. Consistent with this commitment, revised pressure and temperature profiles will be incorporated into design drawings in support of Unit 2 operation prior to start-up from the current refueling outage.

Per Reference 2, Luminant Power provided a commitment (commitment number 3495809) to incorporate bounding post-Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA) containment temperature and pressure profiles for EQ regarding CPNPP Units I and 2 (same as commitment number 3458484), update EQ packages, and provided data points for the pressure and temperature curves. Subsequent analyses have been performed for bounding post-LOCA containment temperature and pressure profiles for EQ. The need to update the Unit 1 pressure and temperature profile has been identified within the CPNPP corrective action program. The peak pressure and temperatures are below the levels currently evaluated for CPNPP Units 1 and 2. There are no points on the LOCA curves that exceed the profiles developed for EQ. The revised Units 1 and 2 pressure and temperature profile curves are provided, for information only, in the attachment to this letter. Subsequently, EQ packages will be updated to reflect completed evaluations using the revised pressure and temperature profiles.
