INDIAN POINT NUCLEAR GENERATING UNIT NO.2 - REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING RELIEF REQUEST RR-09 (TAC NO. ME1658)
Dear Sir or Madam:
By letter dated July 1, 2009, as supplemented by letter dated September 24, 2009, Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. (the licensee), submitted Relief Request (RR)-09 for Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) review and approval. The licensee requested to implement an alternative to the requirements of paragraph 50.55a(g)(6)(ii)(D)(3) of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations. The request pertains to inservice inspection (lSI) of the reactor vessel upper head nozzles at Indian Point Nuclear Generating Unit No.2. The duration of request is for the fourth 10-year lSI interval which began March 1, 2007, and concludes April 3, 2016.
The I\\JRC staff is reviewing the submittal and has determined that additional information is needed to complete its review. The specific questions are found in the enclosed request for additional information (RAI). On October 21,2009, the Entergy staff indicated that a response to the RAI would be provided within 60 days of the date of this letter.

In Section 1 of RR-09, on page 1 of 3, you referred to "Examination Category: B-E, Item Number: B4.12,
Description:
Control Rod Drive l'Jozzles, Code Class: 1," which does not exist in the American Society for Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI, 2001 Edition through 2003 Addenda. Please clarify and state the correct components.

Please provide verification that your ultrasonic testing examination process is qualified in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a for circumferential and axial flaw detection below the J groove weld extending to the distance specified in Table 1 of your submittal.
