SUMMARY
OF THE SEPTEMBER 2009 B EMERGENCY DIESEL GENERATOR (EDG) REGULATORY CONFERENCE On September 30, 2009, at 9:30 a.m., the NRC conducted a Regulatory Conference to discuss the preliminary WHITE finding associated with the Seabrook B EDG failure that occurred on February 25, 2009. The conference was conducted at the Region I office in King of Prussia, PA.
It provided NextEra the opportunity to present additional information not considered in the preliminary risk assessment for the finding that may affect the final significance and enforcement determinations for the finding. A list of meeting attendees is attached.
The NRCs presentation for the regulatory conference included information on the enforcement process, event description, inspection details and the significance determination process (SDP) logic used to characterize the finding. NextEra then presented new information to support the final significance and enforcement determinations for the finding. After NextEras presentation, NRC attendees asked several questions regarding the new information presented and also requested additional details related to several areas that were discussed. NextEra committed to provide the requested additional information to the NRC by October 9, 2009. At the end of the meeting between the NRC and NextEra, public attendees were offered the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials.
The NRCs final decision on this matter will be issued via written correspondence from the NRC to NextEra within 90 days of the issue date for Inspection Report 05000443/2009007 (ML092400410)1. The regulatory conference meeting notice with the attached meeting agenda (ML092600714) and the meeting slides with the information NextEra provided to the NRC prior to the meeting (ML092740304) can be located in ADAMS package ML092600470.
