UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 August 7, 2009 Mr. John F. McCann Director, Nuclear Safety and Licensing Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc.

440 Hamilton Avenue White Plains, NY 10601 SUB~IECT:

INDIAN POINT NUCLEAR GENERATING UNIT NO.2, VERMONT YANKEE NUCLEAR POWER STATION, AND PALISADES NUCLEAR PLANT

SUMMARY

OF JULY 22, 2009, CONFERENCE CALL WITH ENTERGY NUCLEAR OPERATIONS, INC., ON DECOMMISSION FUNDING ASSURANCE (TAC NOS. ME0528, MD0583, AND ME0548)

Dear Mr. McCann:

On July 22, 2009, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a conference call with representatives of Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. (the licensee) to discuss shortfalls in the decommissioning funds. On July 13, 2009, NRC had published a table (Agencywide Document Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession Number ML091940387), which provided the shortfall in the amounts of decommissioning funds for various nuclear power plants. The purpose of the call on July 22, 2009, was to discuss the minor differences in the amount of the decommissioning funding assurance shortfall discussed with the licensee in a call on June 29, 2009, compared to the numbers in the table mentioned above. The NRC staff provided the clarification that the minor differences were due to the NRC staff's recalculation of the interest earned by the funds to the exact date of the termination of the license rather than to the beginning of the year of license termination. Enclosed is a list of attendees. Please direct any inquiries to me at 301-415-2901, or John.Boska@nrc.gov.

Sincerely, (kOI3-L
