Acceptance Review for Relief Requests
- Mike, By letter dated September 30, 2008, FPL Energy Seabrook submitted a relief request for the Seabrook Station, Unit No. 1. The request would allow use of a PDI demonstrated technique to examine the Reactor Pressure Vessel Upper Shell-to-Flange Weld (TAC No. MD9784).
The purpose of this e-mail is to provide you with the results of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff's acceptance review of this submittal. The acceptance review was performed to determine if there is sufficient technical information in scope and depth to allow the NRC staff to complete its detailed technical review. The acceptance review is also intended to identify whether the application has any readily apparent information insufficiencies in its characterization of the regulatory requirements or the licensing basis of the plant.
The NRC staff has reviewed your submittal and concluded that it does provide technical information in sufficient detail to enable the NRC staff to proceed with its detailed technical review and make an independent assessment regarding the acceptability of the proposed amendment in terms of regulatory requirements and protection of public health and safety and the environment.
If additional information is needed for the staff to complete its technical review, you will be advised by separate correspondence. If you have any questions, please contact me at (301) 415-2481.
G. Edward Miller Project Manager Plant Licensing Branch I-2 Division of Operating Reactor Licensing Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation P.S.
The other relief request submitted on September 30, 2008 is still undergoing its acceptance review. There will be a separate correspondence to communicate the results of those acceptance reviews.
