REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR THE REVIEW OF THE PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT, UNITS 1 & 2, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NOS. MD8513 and MD8514)

Dear Mr. Wadley:

By letter dated April 11, 2008, Nuclear Management Company, LLC (NMC), submitted an application pursuant to Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulation Part 54 (10 CFR Part 54) to renew the operating license for Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2, for review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff).

The staff has reviewed the analysis of severe accident mitigation design alternatives submitted by NMC in support of its application for license renewal. The staff has identified areas where additional information is needed to complete its review and development of the Environmental Impact Statement Supplement. The request for additional information is provided as an enclosure. Items in the enclosure were discussed with Gene Eckholt, of your staff, and a mutually agreeable date for the response is within 30 days from the date of this letter.
