SUMMARY
OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALL HELD ON AUGUST 7, 2008, BETWEEN THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION AND ENTERGY NUCLEAR OPERATIONS, INC., PERTAINING TO THE INDIAN POINT NUCLEAR GENERATING UNIT NOS. 2 AND 3, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION - REACTOR VESSEL NEUTRON EMBRITTLEMENT The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc., (Entergy or the applicant) held a telephone conference call on August 7, 2008, to obtain clarification on information in a Westinghouse commercial atomic power (WCAP) report cited by the applicant. Specifically, WCAP-16212 states that the fluence in the nozzle region is 0.6% of the peak vessel fluence. For the Indian Point Nuclear Generating Unit No. 2, this may mean that the nozzle fluence is greater than the threshold value of 1.0E17 n/cm2. Entergy stated that Westinghouse is in the process of performing an evaluation to update the fluence values. The staff asked the applicant to provide the results of the evaluation for the upper shelf region including the nozzles (for 1/4 vessel thickness and inner diameter) for both units. The applicant indicated that it would provide the requested information by letter.
The enclosure provides a listing of the participants.
The applicant had an opportunity to comment on this summary.
