WATERFORD STEAM ELECTRIC STATION, UNIT 3 - CLOSURE OF CONFIRMATORY ACTION LETTER NRR-07-006 (TAC NO. MD7293)
Dear Mr. Walsh:
On March 20, 2007, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Confirmatory Action Letter (CAL) No. NRR-07-006 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML070710563) regarding dissimilar metal welds in the pressurizer at Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit 3. This letter acknowledges receipt of your letter dated July 28, 2008 (ADAMS Accession No. ML082120371) informing the NRC of actions taken by Entergy Operations, Inc (Entergy) in response to this CAL.
In the Entergy letter dated July 28, 2008, your staff stated that all committed actions in the CAL and the supporting commitment letter dated February 21, 2007 (ADAMS Accession No. ML070590205) have been completed. By letter dated May 29, 2008 (ADAMS Accession No. ML081540252), Entergy provided to the NRC a summary of the installation and satisfactory non-destructive examination of full structural weld overlays on one pressurizer surge nozzle, one pressurizer spray nozzle and three pressurizer safety/relief nozzles. By letter dated July 24, 2008 (ADAMS Accession No. ML082100076) Entergy provided a summary of mitigation actions taken on the remaining Alloy 82/182 butt welds associated with the pressurizer spray, surge, and relief lines.
Based on these letters, the NRC staff concluded that all the commitments listed in the CAL and the supporting commitment letter dated February 21, 2007, have been met for Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit 3. No further response is required regarding the CAL and it is no longer necessary to implement enhanced inspection and leakage monitoring requirements for the reactor coolant system. This action closes CAL NRR-07-006 and Technical Assignment Control (TAC) No. MD7293.
