SUBJECT:
BEAVER VALLEY POWER STATION, UNIT NO. 2 - CORRECTION TO RELIEF REQUEST NO. PRR2 REGARDING THE THIRD 10-YEAR INSERVICE TESTING PROGRAM (TAC NO. MD5596)
Dear Mr. Sena:
By letter dated May 11, 2007, as supplemented by letters dated September 24, and November 14, 2007, FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC, licensee), submitted Relief Request No. PRR2 to request authorization of proposed alternatives associated with the inservice testing program third 10-year interval update for the Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 2 (BVPS-2). Based on the information provided by the licensee, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff concluded that pursuant to Section 50.55a(a)(3)(i) of Part 50 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR), Relief Request No. PRR2 was authorized on the basis that the proposed alternatives would provide an acceptable level of quality and safety.
For clarification purposes, the NRC staff would like to make a correction to the safety evaluation (SE) issued by letter dated February 14, 2008. The SE only mentioned authorization for auxiliary feedwater flow instruments 2FWE-FI100A, 2FWE-FI100B, and 2FWE-FI100C for Group B tests. However, the auxiliary feedwater flow instruments 2FWE-FI100A, 2FWE-FI100B, and 2FWE-FI100C are also authorized for Comprehensive tests due to the same technical basis provided by NRC staff for Group B tests.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me at (301) 415-1016.
Sincerely,
/RA/
