SUMMARY

OF MARCH 3, 2008, MEETING TO DISCUSS OCTOBER 22, 2007, LICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST (LAR) TO PERMIT USE OF AREVA NP MARK-B-HTP FUEL (TAC NOS. MD7050, MD7051, AND MD7052)

On March 3, 2008, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff met with Duke (the licensee) to discuss the October 22, 2007, LAR to permit the use of AREVA NP Mark-B-HTP fuel at Oconee. The October 22, 2007, LAR is available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under accession number ML072990298. The handout provided by the licensee during the meeting is available under ADAMS accession number ML080700175. Enclosed is a list of the meeting attendees.

The AREVA NP Mark-B-HTP fuel has been selected primarily because of its improved resistance to flow-induced vibration. The licensee is planning to begin loading the Mark-B-HTP fuel during the next refueling outage for Oconee Unit 2, which is scheduled to begin in December 2008. The NRC staff stated that it understands the importance of installing the Mark-B-HTP and will try to complete its review in time to accommodate the licensees schedule.
