NRC NEWS U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Office of Public Affairs Telephone: 301/415-8200 Washington, D.C. 20555-0001 E-mail: opa@nrc.gov Web Site: http://www.nrc.gov No.07-092 July 28, 2007 NRC FINDS NO SIGNIFICANT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS FROM EXTENDED OPERATION OF PILGRIM NUCLEAR POWER PLANT The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued its final environmental impact statement on the proposed renewal of the operating license for the Pilgrim nuclear plant. The report contains the NRCs finding that there are no environmental impacts that would preclude license renewal for an additional 20 years of operation.

The Pilgrim plant is located four miles southeast of Plymouth, Mass. The current operating license expires June 8, 2012. The licensee, Entergy Nuclear, submitted an application for renewal of the license Jan. 27, 2006.

As part of its environmental review of the application, the NRC held public meetings near the plant to discuss the scope of the review and the draft version of the environmental impact statement.

Comments were received and considered from members of the public, local officials, and representatives of state and federal agencies.

The Pilgrim Final Environmental Impact Statement is available on the NRCs Web site at this address: http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/nuregs/staff/sr1437/supplement29/index.html .
