MCGUIRE NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2, - NRC GENERIC LETTER 2006-01: STEAM GENERATOR TUBE INTEGRITY (TAC NOS. MD0086 AND MD0087)
Dear Mr. Peterson:
On January 20, 2006, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Generic Letter (GL) 2006-01, Steam Generator [SG] Tube Integrity and Associated Technical Specifications
[TSs], (Agencywide Document Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML060200385). This GL requested that addressees either submit a description of their program for ensuring SG tube integrity for the interval between inspections or adopt alternative TS requirements for ensuring SG tube integrity.
By letter dated February 15, 2006, the licensee for McGuire Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2 (McGuire Units 1 and 2), submitted a response to GL 2006-01 (ADAMS Accession No. ML060540492). This response provided a regulatory commitment to submit a request to modify the SG portion of the TSs. By application to the NRC dated April 11, 2006, the licensee requested changes to the TSs for McGuire Units 1 and 2 to adopt the alternative TS requirements for ensuring SG tube integrity (ADAMS Accession No. ML061080500). The new TSs were modeled after Technical Specification Task Force (TSTF) Traveler, TSTF-449, Steam Generator Tube Integrity (ADAMS Accession No. ML051090200). By letter dated November 29, 2006, the licensee provided the NRC a supplement (ADAMS Accession No. ML063460252) to the original application. On March 1, 2007, the NRC staff issued Amendment Nos. 237 and 219 to the McGuire Units 1 and 2 Facility Operating Licenses which approved the new SG TSs (ADAMS Accession No. ML070320048).
G. R. Peterson The NRC staff finds the licensees adoption of the new SG TSs modeled after TSTF-449 to be an acceptable and complete response to GL 2006-01. This completes the NRC staffs efforts on TAC Nos. MD0086 and MD0087.
