Dear Mr. Gannon:
This refers to the May 23, 2006 meeting conducted at our request at the New Horizons Fellowship Annex, located at 820 E. Williams St. (Highway 55), Apex, North Carolina. The NRC Region II Chief of Reactor Projects Branch 4 and the NRC Region II Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant Senior Resident Inspector met with Carolina Power and Light Company (CPL)
(Progress Energy - Carolinas) management to discuss the NRCs Reactor Oversight Process and the NRCs annual assessment of Shearon Harris safety performance for the period of January 1, 2005 - December 31, 2005 (CY 2005). Other attendees included 3 NRC and 19 Progress Energy-Carolinas management and staff members, 6 local TV and newspaper personnel, and 47 members of the public.
The meeting was informative and did not result in any specific action items or decisions. The NRC and licensee presentation material used during the meeting are available from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRCs document system (ADAMS), as accession numbers ML061640085 and ML061640090. ADAMS is accessible from the NRC website at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html (the Public Electronic Reading Room). In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from ADAMS.
