Dear Sirs:
Subject:
Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS)
Unit 2 Docket No. STN 50-529 Withdrawal of Request for Emergency Amendment to Technical Specifications 3.7.8, "Essential Spray Pond System (ESPS)" and 3.8.1, "AC Sources - Operating" In letter number 102-05420, dated February 23, 2006, supplemented by letter number 102-05421, dated February 23, 2006, Arizona Public Service Company (APS) requested an emergency Technical Specification (TS) amendment that would allow a one-time extension of the 72-hour allowed outage times (AOTs) of TS 3.7.8, Essential Spray Pond System (ESPS), Required Action A.1, and TS 3.8.1, AC Sources -
Operating, Required Action B.4, due to suspected ESPS train B pipe leakage.
Subsequent to submitting the emergency TS amendment request, APS completed excavation and examination of the areas of the ESPS train B supply and discharge piping that were suspected to be leaking and concluded that the ESPS train B piping is not leaking, and is intact and functional. APS restored the ESPS to operable status at 0246 on February 24, 2006, prior to expiration of the 72 hour8.333333e-4 days
0.02 hours
1.190476e-4 weeks
2.7396e-5 months
AOT. Based on this, NRC approval of the AOT extension is no longer required and APS withdraws the emergency TS amendment. It should be noted that APS verbally notified the NRC at approximately 0305 on February 24, 2006, that the emergency TS amendment was no longer required.
No commitments are being made in this letter. If you have any questions, please contact Thomas N. Weber at (623) 393-5764.
Sincerely, A member of the STARS (Stratogic Teaming and Resource Sharing) Alliance Callaway
