Dear Mr. Mustardo:
I am responding on behalf of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to Berkeley Township Councils Resolution No. 05-245-R, dated July 12, 2005. The resolution communicated concerns by the Township Council about the emergency evacuation plan for the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station (OCNGS), stating in part that BE IT RESOLVED by Township Council of the Township of Berkeley that the Township determines the evacuation plan for the Oyster Creek Generating Station to be entirely inadequate for the protection of area residents.
We reviewed the resolution and note that in a letter dated December 31, 2003 (NRC Agencywide Document Access and Management System, Accession No. ML033650167), in response to Berkeley Township Councils Resolution No. 03-398-R, the NRC has provided a detailed response regarding, among other things, the issue of emergency preparedness, with specific emphasis on evacuation planning. In addition, the NRC's public website at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/fact-sheets contains detailed general information about emergency preparedness and evacuation planning. We determine that the Councils Resolution No. 05-245-R did not provide any new information for the NRC to evaluate, and did not request any NRC action.
