August 29, 2005 PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE LOSS OF SPECIAL NUCLEAR MATERIAL FROM PACIFIC GAS & ELECTRICS HUMBOLDT BAY POWER PLANT FACILITY: Humboldt Bay Power Plant (HBPP)

LOCATION: Humboldt Yacht Club Wharfinger Building One Marina Way Eureka, CA (707) 268-1973 PURPOSE: NRC staff will discuss the findings of the recent special inspection performed at Pacific Gas & Electrics (PG&E) Humboldt Bay Power Plant (HBPP) Unit 3 facility. The report of this inspection can be found on the NRCs website at www.nrc.gov (ADAMS Main Library - ML052310593).
The purpose of the special inspection was to review the circumstances of PG&Es reported loss of three approximately 18-inch long spent fuel rod segments, one intact incore detector, and parts of three other incore detectors all containing special nuclear material. The special inspection also reviewed PG&Es programs to control and account for special nuclear material at the Humboldt Bay Power Plant.
