December 30, 2004 The Honorable James W. Wright, State Senator Chairman, Energy And Telecommunications Committee New York State Senate Room 915, Legislative Building Albany, New York 12247
SUBJECT:
ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF RECEIPT OF YOUR LETTER ON THE APPLICATION FOR RENEWAL OF THE OPERATING LICENSES FOR NINE MILE POINT NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2
Dear Senator Wright:
The staff of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has received your letter dated October 4, 2004, related to the application of Constellation Energy (CE) to extend the operating licenses for the Nine Mile Point (NMP) Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2, (NMP1 and NMP2) for an additional 20-year period. We appreciate your initiative in writing the letter and letting us know of your support for the renewal of the NMP operating licenses.
Public involvement is a key element in NRCs reactor license renewal process. One of the NRCs performance goals is to enhance public confidence, and we regard public outreach as a top priority in the work we do. All meetings with the applicant on safety issues are open to the public. The NRC holds meetings with the public to discuss the scope of the NRCs environmental review.
All documents and correspondence related to the NMP1 and NMP2 license renewal application are placed in the NRCs Public Document Room in Rockville, Maryland, and can be accessed through the Public Electronic Reading Room. Members of the public may access the Electronic Reading Room libraries from computers with Internet access by going to http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/pdr.html. NRC documents may also be obtained from the Penfield Library, Reference and Documents Department, State University of New York, Oswego, New York 13126.
Thank you again in writing to us of your interest in NMP1 and NMP2 license renewal. If you have any questions on NMP1 and NMP2 license renewal, please contact Tommy Le, NMP1 and NMP2 license renewal Project Manager, at (301) 415-1458 or nbl@nrc.gov.
Sincerely,
/RA/ (S. Lee for)
