R New York State Senate
'S ENERGY AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE
\ ~ Senator Jim Wright, Chairman October 4, 2004 C)
Chief, Rules and Directives Brani&h Division of Administrative Services Office of Administration Mailstop T-6D59 US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555-0001 RE: Relicensing of Nine Mile Point I an II nuclear facilities
Dear Sir of Madam:
As the Chairman of the New York State Senate Energy Committee and representative of Oswego County, I am writing to express my strong support for the relicensing of Nine Mile Point I and 1I nuclear facilities, owned and operated by Constellation Energy.
These two facilities, which produce over 2000 megawatts combined, are critical to meeting the electricity needs of New York. As our state's economy continues to grow and prosper, Nine Mile will prove even more critical in ensuring that adequate and reliable energy is available. Nine Mile has already proven to be a source of low-cost electricity for businesses in our region.
Constellation Energy is the largest employer in Oswego County providing over 1300 good paying jobs and contributing over $30 million in tax revenue to local governments and school districts. Constellation has a strong reputation in the community and provides support to many local organizations and events.
Since September 11, Constellation has taken significant steps to improve safety and security of the Nine Mile facilities. Having toured the facility last fall, I have seen these improvements first hand and the commitment of Constellation security officials to ensure the Room 915, Legislative Office Building, Albany, New York 12247

safety of the surrounding communities. Constellation continues to invest in security improvements and employee training and development.
Therefore, I ask that you look favorably on Constellation's application for relicensing of Nine Mile Point I and II.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
