DPR-72 ONSITE PROPERTY INSURANCE COVERAGE Ladies and Gentlemen:
In accordance with 10 CFR 50.54(w)(3), Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L), now doing business as Progress Energy Carolinas, Inc., (PEC), and Florida Power Corporation (FPC), now doing business as Progress Energy Florida, Inc., (PEF), hereby submit information regarding the present level and source of onsite property damage insurance at the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Unit Nos. I and 2; the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant, Unit No. 1; the H. B. Robinson Steam Electric Plant, Unit No. 2; and the Crystal River Unit 3 Nuclear Generating Plant. This information is required to be submitted to the NRC by April 1 of each year.
PEC and-PEF-have-in-full-forceaifd eff-ct-with NuclearElectric InsuranceLimited (NEIL),-
primary nuclear property insurance for each reactor site, in the amount of $500 million which expires April 1, 2005. This coverage is in effect for the period of April 1, 2004 to April 1, 2005, and is renewed effective April 1, 2005, for the period of April 1, 2005, to April 1, 2006.
PEC also has in full force and effect with NEIL, excess nuclear property insurance in the amount of $2 billioh for the 'Brunswick Steamn Electric Plant,,Unit Nos. 1 and 2, and $2 billion for the Shearo'nIHarris Nuclear Power PlanfUriitNo.1. Combined with the primary coverage the total limit Is $2.5 billion for each site.
Excess'nuclear property 'insurance for the H.B. Robin'son Steam Electric Plant, Unit No. 2, and the Crystal River Unit 3 Nuclear Generating Plant is provided by PEC and PEF in the amount of $1.1 billion each. Combined with the primary coverage the total limit is $1.6 billion for each site. The excess coverage is in effect for'the period of April 1, 2004 to' April 1, 2005, and is renewed effective April 1, 2005, for the period April 1, 2005 to April 1, 2006.
United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission PE&RAS-05-020 Page 2 Upon renewal, the company plans to modify the excess coverage as follows for the period April 1, 2005 to April 1, 2006:
Excess nuclear property insurance will be purchased in the amount of $1.75 billion for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Unit Nos. 1 and 2; the Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant, Unit No. 1; the H.B. Robinson Steam Electric Plant, Unit No. 2; and the Crystal River Nuclear Generating Plant, Unit 3. Combined with the primary coverage the total limit as of April 1, 2005 will be $2.25 billion for each site.
