Re: Request for public meeting prior to Hope Creek restart Hello Randy:

I agree that the document is public.

Also, when I drafted the letter I was hearing that restart might be in 3 weeks. I've subsequently learned that restart may be much sooner. Given the compressed time frame, an alternative to the public meeting might be an NRC record (letter, fact sheet, news release, etc) made publicly available articulately the NRC's position on the recent Hope Creek event in context of the broader vibration issue.

Thanks, Dave Lochbaum

Dave, i have the letter and we will consider.

the letter looks to be appropriate to be made public rather than to be treated in the allegation system.

Would you agree?

thanks.

Hello Randy:

Attached is a letter requesting that the NRC conduct a public meeting prior to the Hope Creek restart.

At the public meeting in January 2005, the NRC told us that the vibrating B recirc pump had not resulted in the inoperability of any safety-related components. That assurance no longer appears true with the recent thru-wall leak from a connection to the vibrating B recirc pump.

The public deserves to be updated on the NRC's revised logic for allowing this troubled reactor to continue operating despite numerous warning signs.
