Dear Dr. Reece:
We are continuing our review of the Application for Renewal of License No. R-83 Docket No.
50-128 for the Texas A&M Nuclear Science Center TRIGA research reactor. The application was submitted on February 27, 2003. During our review of Chapter 5 of the Safety Analysis Report for the application, questions have arisen for which we require additional information and clarification. Please provide responses to the enclosed request for additional information within 60 days of the date of this letter. In accordance with 10 CFR 50.30(b), your response must be executed in a signed original under oath or affirmation. Following receipt of the additional information, we will continue our evaluation of your request.

REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY DOCKET NO. 50-128
- 1. Provide the elevation of the following locations relative to the top of the core: the normal surface of the pool water and the pipe connection to the pool at an elevation near the top of the core or below, that is not siphon/check valve protected. Include the diameter of the pipe and configuration, e.g., elbows, orifices or other restrictions, required to estimate loss of coolant rates and times.
- 2. Provide description of the analyses, design and procedural changes (if any) that were implemented to prevent reoccurrence of the September 17, 2004, pool leakage event.
