On behalf of the B&W Owners Group Reactor Vessel Working Group, Framatome ANP requested the NRC's review and approval for referencing in licensing actions the topical report BAW-2308(NP), Revision 1, "Initial RTNDT of Linde 80 Weld Materials" (Reference 1). In Reference 2, the NRC requested additional information to facilitate the completion of its review.
To assist in the development of the response to this RAI, and in recognition that the matter is of importance to operators of PWRs, a recognized materials specialist was sought. The EPRI Materials Reliability Program (MRP) Reactor Vessel Issues Task Group (ITG) has contracted Kim Wallin, Research Professor at VTT Industrial Systems in Finland to provide expert assistance in addressing this industry issue. This assistance is scheduled to be completed in five weeks. Consistent with the discussion held in a conference call with the NRC on February 20, 2004, a response will be provided to the RAI by June 15, 2004.
