SUMMARY

OF PUBLIC SCOPING MEETINGS TO SUPPORT REVIEW OF THE ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE, UNIT 2 LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION On Tuesday, February 3, 2004, members of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff conducted public environmental scoping meetings to support the review of the Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 2 (ANO-2) license renewal application submitted by Entergy Operations (Entergy). The public meetings were held at the Holiday Inn in Russellville, Arkansas. Two sessions were held to allow maximum public participation. Formal presentations were made by John Tappert, Thomas Kenyon, and Stacey Imboden of the NRC staff.

The purpose of the meetings was to provide the public an opportunity to participate in the environmental scoping process by providing comments on any issues the public thought the NRC staff should consider while preparing a site-specific supplement to NUREG-1437,

Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Power Plants, for ANO-2. The staff presentations outlined the overall license renewal process, provided a description of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review process, discussed environmental requirements outlined in 10 CFR Part 51, and addressed how those requirements would be implemented during the ANO-2 license renewal review.

Approximately 40 people attended the meetings, including members of the NRC staff and the environmental review team, members of the public, representatives from Entergy, and State and local government officials. There were no comments provided at the public meetings. is the List of Attendees, Enclosures 2 and 3 contain the Official Corrected Transcripts for the afternoon and evening sessions of the meeting. The slides (Enclosure 4) used in the NRCs presentation are also available on the NRC website at www.nrc.gov in the electronic reading room, through the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS).
