RESOLUTION OF THE TOWNSHIP OF LACEY, COUNTY OF OCEAN, STATE OF NEW JERSEY, SUPPORTING THE OPERATION OF THE OYSTER CREEK NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION QEC 30 R7 5 WHEREAS, Oyster creek Nuclear Generating station, located m the Township of Lacey, is nearing the end of its original 40-year operating license granted by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in 1969; and WHEREAS, Exelon Nuclear and AmerGen are reviewing their options for an extension of the operating license for its Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating station, which if approved by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission would enable the station to continue to produce electricity through 2029; and WHEREAS, Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station is a key element of the local economy, employing more than 430 employees, who have a significant impact on the region; and WHEREAS, Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station has been a safe, clean and reliable source of electricity for the State of New Jersey for 34 years; and WHEREAS, Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station has always stated that the health and safety of Ocean County resident is its top priority, and WHEREAS, Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station has had a positive impact on the air quality of Ocean County and the State of New Jersey; and WHEREAS, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has demonstrated that there are valid technical, environmental and economic reasons for extending the life of well-run and properly maintained plants beyond there initial 40-year license period; and WHEREAS, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission will perform a thorough review of the plant and the documentation provided by the company to determine whether to grant a license renewal.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Mayor and Township Committee of the Township of Lacey, County of Ocean, State of New Jersey, as follows:

That the Mayor and Township Committee fully supports the continued peration of the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station for an additional 20 years beyond 2009.

That the Mayor and Township Committee encourage the Nuclear Legulatory Commission to approve expeditiously Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Stations icense renewal extension application should it meet the Commissions relevant requirements.
