Enclosed for your information is Framatome ANP, Inc. Document 31-5029337-02, "Examination of the Reactor Vessel (RV) Head Degradation at Davis-Besse," November 2003, which was prepared by BWX Technologies, Inc., BWXT Services, Inc. on behalf of the FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC). This report describes the laboratory examinations performed on a portion of the degraded reactor vessel head and two control rod drive mechanism (CRDM) nozzles removed from the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, Unit No. 1. This document is identical to the document previously transmitted as Enclosure to the letter dated August 13, 2003 (FENOC Serial Number 2968), with the exception that the above-referenced Framatome ANP Document Number has been indicated on a new cover sheet and the BWXT Services, Inc.
warranty and liability statement on the first page following the cover sheet has been removed.
