Subject:
Duke Energy Corporation Catawba Nuclear Station, Unit 1 Docket Number 50-413 Withdrawal of Proposed Technical Specifications (TS) Amendment TS 3.3.2, Engineered Safety Feature Actuation System (ESFAS) Instrumentation TS 3.6.6, Containment Spray System
Reference:
Letter from Duke Energy Corporation to NRC, dated October 15, 2003 The reference letter requested an exigent amendment to the Catawba Nuclear Station Unit 1 Facility Operating License and TS.
The proposed amendment would have modified the TS to allow, for a limited period of time, operation of Unit 1 with only one operable train of the Containment Spray System.
It also would have extended the surveillance test interval associated with TS Surveillance Requirement (SR) 3.3.2.7 for a limited period of time.
This proposed amendment was requested to support the operation of Unit 1 until the End of Cycle 14 Refueling Outage.
On October 21, 2003, at 2106 hours0.0244 days
0.585 hours
0.00348 weeks
8.01333e-4 months
, the inoperable train of the Containment Spray System was restored to operable status.
The train was restored prior to the expiration of a Notice of Enforcement Discretion previously granted by the NRC on October 8, 2003.
Therefore, the proposed amendment is no longer necessary.
Accordingly, by this letter, Duke Energy Corporation is withdrawing the proposed amendment.
Inquiries on this matter should be directed to L.J. Rudy at (803) 831-3084.
