SUMMARY
OF MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 7, 2003, TO DISCUSS STEAM GENERATOR ISSUES On October 7, 2003, representatives of Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) met with the NRC staff to make a presentation on steam generator (SG) issues for Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 and 2.
The meeting began with PG&Es discussion of the license amendment request (LAR) currently being reviewed by the NRC staff for the use of the probability of prior cycle detection (POPCD) method for Unit 2 Cycle 12 operational assessment. The meeting continued with a presentation on the use of a permanent POPCD for future cycles, PG&Es strategy for SG operation until replacement, and planned chemical cleaning of the SGs. PG&E further discussed the wedge region alternate repair criteria exclusion zone reduction, increase of main steam line break (MSLB) leak rate limit, Alloy 800 sleeving and related future LAR, increase of 15 percent plugging limit, and locking of the tube support plate (TSP) to prevent TSP displacement and potential for tube burst under postulated MSLB conditions.
PG&E provided responses to the verbal questions from the NRC staff and discussed tentative schedules for submittal of the future LARs on the subjects discussed in the meeting.
