Early Site Permit Application Exelon Generation Company (EGC), LLC is submitting an application for an early site permit (ESP) in accordance with the regulations in section 52.15 of Subpart A of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 52 (10 CFR 52), Early Site Permits; Standard Design Certifications; and Combined Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants.'

The site that is the subject of the EGC ESP application is property co-located with the existing Clinton Power Station (CPS) facility in Illinois. This co-location strategy provides several advantages since this existing nuclear site is already developed and dedicated to nuclear use. These advantages are further addressed in the supporting documents for this application.

The specific reactor design to be built at this site has not yet been decided. Therefore, technical information from various certified and proposed designs has been used to develop and envelop the facility characterization necessary to evaluate the suitability of the site for the construction and operation of a nuclear power plant.

This ESP application is composed of several documents:

  • Administrative Information - addressing 10 CFR 50.33, Contents of applications; general information," paragraphs (a)through (d) as required by 10 CFR 52.17, "Contents of applications,' paragraph (a)(1);
  • Environmental Report - addressing 10 CFR 51.45, "Environmental report -

manufacturing license,' and 51.50, Environmental report - construction permit staged as required by 10 CFR 52.17(a)(2);

One complete set of the application documents (identified above) is provided in electronic file format on the enclosed CD-ROM. Submission of the application in electronic format is in accordance with the general exception to 10 CFR 50.4(c) provided by Regulatory Issue Summary (RIS) 2001-005 dated January 25, 2001.

Through this application, EGC is requesting an Early Site Permit with a 20-year duration.
