SUBJECT:

PALO VERDE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION, UNITS 1, 2, AND 3 -

WITHDRAWAL OF PUMP RELIEF REQUEST NO. 13 (TAC NOS. MB7305, MB7306, AND MB7307)

Dear Mr. Overbeck:

By letter dated January 21, 2003 (102-04881), you submitted Relief Request (RR) No. 13 and proposed an alternative to the pump testing requirements of paragraph 6.1 of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)/American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Code for the Operations and Maintenance of Nuclear Power Plants, Part 6 (OM-6), as implemented through IWP-1100 of Section XI of the ASME Code, 1989 Edition. Specifically, you requested relief from the Code to use an alternative method for testing high pressure safety injection pumps when the refueling outage design full flow test results are in the alert range that is specified in the ASME Code.

The NRC staff conducted two conference calls with your staff on this relief request. In the last call and in your letter dated May 28, 2003 (102-04945), RR No. 13 was withdrawn. This letter acknowledges that the relief request has been withdrawn, and that the subject TAC on this review has been closed.

Sincerely,

/RA by Brian Benney for/
