REACTOR AND SENIOR REACTOR OPERATOR INITIAL EXAMINATIONS
CATAWBA NUCLEAR STATION - 50-413/03-301 AND 50-414/03-301
Dear Mr. Peterson:
In a telephone conversation on January 30, 2003, between Mr. John A. Suptela, Supervisor
Initial Training, and Mr. Edwin Lea, Senior Operations Engineer, Mr. Suptela agreed that the
upcoming examinations scheduled for your Catawba Nuclear Station, will be developed using
the guidelines in Draft Revision 9 of NUREG-1021, Operator Licensing Examination Standards
for Power Reactors, instead of Revision 8 of NUREG-1021. You were informed of
arrangements made to develop the licensing examinations using Revision 8 of NUREG-1021 in
a letter to you, dated December 5, 2002.
In the letter dated December 5, 2002, you were informed of the examination material
requirements and the time-line in which the materials should be submitted to the NRC in order
to assure that the examinations would be given on their scheduled dates. The required
materials and their submittal dates, as identified in the December 5, 2002, letter will remain the
same, with the following exceptions: examination outlines due date is February 7, 2003, and the
written examinations, operating tests, and the supporting reference materials identified in
Attachment 2 of ES-201 will be due by February 14, 2003.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Mr. Suptela has been advised of the policies and
guidelines referenced in this letter. If you have any questions regarding the NRC's examination
