SHEARON HARRIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNIT 1 - EPRI REPORT TR-113594, RESOLUTION OF GENERIC LETTER 96-06 WATERHAMMER ISSUES, VOLUMES 1 AND 2 (TAC NO. M96818)
Dear Mr. Scarola:
Generic Letter (GL) 96-06, Assurance of Equipment Operability and Containment Integrity During Design-Basis Accident Conditions, dated September 30, 1996, requested that licensees evaluate waterhammer and two-phase flow concerns associated with containment air cooler cooling water systems. Your remaining actions to fully address these concerns were deferred pending Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) review and approval of Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Report TR-113594, Resolution of Generic Letter 96-06 Waterhammer Issues, Volumes 1 and 2. The purpose of this letter is to inform you that we have completed our review, and we have determined that use of EPRI Report TR-113594 for evaluating the GL 96-06 waterhammer issues is acceptable to the extent specified and within the limitations delineated in the report and NRC evaluation. We request that you complete your actions to address GL 96-06 and submit the information referred to in Section 3.3 of the NRC evaluation by October 31, 2002. The NRCs letter of acceptance with enclosed evaluation (ADAMS Accession No. ML020940132) are enclosed for your information.
