REQUEST FOR COMMENTS ON THE DRAFT PLANT-SPECIFIC SUPPLEMENT 8 TO THE GENERIC ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT REGARDING MCGUIRE NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. MB2021 AND MB2022)

Dear Mr. Tuckman:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has completed the draft plant-specific Supplement 8 to NUREG-1437, Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants, regarding the renewal of operating licenses NPF-9 and NPF-17 for McGuire Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2, for an additional 20 years of operation. Enclosed is a copy of the report for your review and comment.

The draft report will be filed with the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and a notice of availability will be subsequently published by the EPA in the Federal Register. Any comments on the draft plant-specific Supplement 8 to the GEIS should be addressed to:

The comment period will end on August 2, 2002. A public meeting will be held in Huntersville, North Carolina, on June 12, 2002, regarding the draft report. A separate notice of availability

M. Tuckman will also be published in an upcoming Federal Register notice by the NRC, along with details regarding the public meeting.
