E-MAIL: bwh@nrc.gov NEIL OKEEFE ASSIGNED SENIOR RESIDENT INSPECTOR FOR NRC AT SOUTH TEXAS PROJECT The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has assigned Neil OKeefe as senior resident inspector at the South Texas Project nuclear power plant near Wadsworth, Texas. Mr. OKeefe assumed his post on July 18.

Mr. OKeefe is a 1986 graduate of the United States Naval Academy with a bachelor of science degree in Marine Engineering. He spent eight years as an officer in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard nuclear submarines USS Alexander Hamilton (SSBN 617), a Poseidon missile-carrying submarine and USS Toledo (SSN 769), an attack-class submarine. He also served as an engineer in the Naval Reactors Branch of the Naval Sea Systems Command. Mr. OKeefe is a registered Professional Engineer.

He joined the NRC as an inspector in the Reactor Projects Division at Region III headquarters in Chicago in 1994. He successfully completed a three-year tour as the resident inspector at the Fermi 2 plant near Detroit, Michigan. Mr. OKeefe joins Wayne Sifre and Gilbert Guerra, the current resident inspectors at South Texas Project.

Mr. OKeefe will be residing in Lake Jackson with his wife Liz and three children, Jennifer (10), Andrew (8), and Katie (5).
