Victor Dricks, 817-200-1128 NRC Names New Resident Inspector at South Texas Project The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Jackson Choate as its resident inspector at the South Texas Project nuclear power plant located in Bay City, Texas.
Choate joined the agencys Region IV office in Arlington, Texas in 2015. He has served as acting resident inspector at several nuclear power plants, including Waterford 3, Arkansas Nuclear One, and Diablo Canyon. Prior to joining the agency, he was an officer in the U.S. Navy and served as an instructor at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Charleston, S.C. He holds bachelors and masters degrees in physics from the University of Texas at Dallas and a masters degree in nuclear engineering from North Carolina State University.
Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two resident inspectors. Choate joins senior resident inspector Fred Sanchez at South Texas Project. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conduct regular inspections, monitor plant operations and significant work projects, and interact with plant workers and the public.
