~ 3 P188B L-86-185 Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention:
Mr. Hugh L. Thompson, Jr., Director Division of PWR Licensing - A U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555
Dear Mr. Thompson:
Re:
Turkey Point Units 3 and 4 Docket Nos. 50-250 and 50-251 Reactor Vessel Material Surveillance Pro ram 10 CFR 50, Appendix H,
Section Ill requires that reactor vessel material surveillance specimen capsule fracture toughness test results be included in a summary technical report and submitted to the Director, Office of Nuclear Regulation, within one year of capsule withdrawal, unless an extension is granted by the Director.
The "V" surveillance capsule from Turkey Point Unit 3 was removed from the reactor vessel in late April 1985.
Capsule analysis and testing was contracted to Southwest Research lnc. (SWRI) of San Antonio, Texas.
The project has been delayed because of the death of the SWRI Project Manager.
Based on discussion with SWRI, Florida Power & Light Company will receive the SWRI report by the end of June.
In order to provide sufficient time for review and resolution of comments, FPL requests an extension of the submittal date to September I, 1986.
lf you have any questions, please call us.
Very truly yours, C. O. Woody Ad Group Vice President Nuclear Energy COW/TCG/gp cc:
