FLORIDAPOWER & LIGHTCOMPANY May l9, 1983 L-83-309 Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention:

Mr. Robert A. Clark, Chief Operating Reactors Branch 713 Division of Licensing U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555

Dear Mr. Clark:

Re:

St. Lucie Unit I

Docket No. 50-335 Reactor Vessel Internals and Thermal Shield; Plant Recover Pro ram - Loose Parts Monitor and Excore Detector In our letter of April l9, I 983 (L-83-230), Florida Power 6 Light (FPL) committed to provide a Safety Assessment, to include:

"D(3)

Loose Parts Monitor history and associated evaluations conducted."

"D(4) Review of noise history of excore detector output."

Your letter of April 26, l983, acknowledged receipt of our April l9 letter, and recognized a tentative submittal date for the above D(3) and D(4) items of May 20, l983.

As was discussed with Mr. Don Sells of your office on May I8, l983, personnel availability and schedular constraints have negated the possibility of conducting a

meeting presentation of the subject areas on May 20, l 983.

Current availability of necessary parties would indicate that the meeting presentation tentatively be rescheduled for June 3,

l983, with followup documentation of the meeting to be provided on or about June 6, l983.

St. Lucie Unit No.

I Recovery Plan status will also be discussed at that time.

In addition to the above, item A (Reactor Vessel Internals and Inspection Results) of our April l9 letter, previously scheduled to be submitted to you on June I, l983, is now estimated to be submitted on or before June I5, l983, due to the status of the Thermal Shield Recovery Program.
