St. Lucie Units 1 and 2 L-2007-210 Docket Nos. 50-335 and 50-389 Attachment Environmental Protection Plan Report Page 4 of 10 Request to Change Industrial Wastewater Facility Permit Attachment 1 Request for Minor Revision While collecting information for the upcoming St. Lucie Uprate Project, FPL became aware that the circulating water pump performance curves for Units I and 2 were not the same, as had been previously believed. The design point for the pump performance curve for each circulating water pump on Unit I is 121,000 GPM (See Appendix 1), while for the Unit 2 pumps the design point is 122,650 GPM (See Appendix 2). There are four circulating water pumps for Unit I and four for Unit 2.
The daily design point flows for these 8 pumps is 974,600 GPM. For each Unit there are also two intake cooling water pumps (also know as auxiliary equipment cooling water pumps). The four intake cooling water pumps supply a total flow of 58,000 GPM. The combined flow for the 12 pumps is 1,032,600 GPM or 1,487 MGD (rounded).
The current St. Lucie Plant Industrial Wastewater Facility Permit, FL0002208, lists the permitted flow for Outfall D-001 as 1,478 MGD. FPL would like to revise that number, based on the correct design flows to 1,487 MGD. This represents a difference of 0.6% and is well within the range of flows presented in the most recent permit application. FPL will begin reporting 1,487 MGD beginning with the December 2007 Discharge Monitoring Report.
