FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) submitted a request to amend Technical Specification 3.8.4, "DC Sources - Operating," for the Perry Nuclear Power Plant.

By correspondence dated April 13, 2015 (Accession No. ML15096A051), the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requested additional information to complete its review.

Attachment L-15-146 Response to April 13, 2015 Request for Additional Information Page 1 of 1 By correspondence dated November 24, 2014, FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) submitted a license amendment request for Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) review and approval. By correspondence dated April 13, 2015, NRC staff requested additional information to complete its review. The requested information is presented below in bold type, followed by the FENOC response.

1. In Section 2.0 of the submittal dated November 24, 2014 (Agency Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML14328A665),

FENOC states:

[i]f the DC [direct current] batteries are the only available power source, the maintenance tie circuit breaker may be closed to allow the Unit I and Unit 2

[Class IE] batteries to be paralleled.

Address whether the impact of paralleling the Units I and 2 Class 1E batteries, such as contribution of additional short circuit current from the Unit 2 batteries, protection coordination, and protective devices ratings among other factors has been considered in the design of Unit 1,125 volts DC system.
