PUBLIC MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT - CATEGORY ONE MEETING REGULATORY CONFERENCE - OCONEE NUCLEAR STATION -

DOCKET NOS. 50-269, 50-270, and 50-287

Dear Mr. Jones:

This letter confirms the telephone conversation between Graham Davenport of your staff and me on August 23, 2004, concerning a public meeting being conducted at your request, which has been scheduled for September 13, 2004, from 10:00 a.m.. to 12:00 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the inspection finding documented in NRC Inspection Report 05000269/2004012, 05000270/2004012 and 05000287/2004012. This finding, which involved concerns with the staffing of the Standby Shutdown Facility (SSF) for a confirmed fire, was preliminarily characterized as Greater than Green. The location of the meeting will be the Region II Office, Sam Nunn Atlanta Federal Center, 61 Forsyth Street, S.W., Atlanta, Georgia, in Room 24T25. The meeting will be an open meeting in accordance with the NRCs Policy Statement for Enhancing Public Participation in NRC Meetings dated May 28, 2002 (Federal Register Volume 67, Number 102, 36920-36924).

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRCs "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRCs document system (ADAMS).
