NRC INSPECTION REPORT 150-00042/94-03 The refers to the routine, unannounced inspection conducted by Mr. Richard A. Leonardi, Jr., of this office on April. 14, 1994. The inspection included a review of activities: authorized under a General License pursuant to 10 CFR 150.20.. At the conclusion of the inspection, the findings were discussed with members of your staff.
The inspection was an examination of the activities' conducted under'the license as they relate to radiation safety and to compliance with the Commission'.s rules and regulations and the conditions of the license.
The inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative records, interviews of personnel, and observation of activities j
in progress.
No violations or deviations were identified; therefore, no response to this letter is required.
The licensee possesses an Agreement State license issued by the state of Texas which authorizes the use of sealed sources and radioactive tracers material for industrial investigations and/or services at temporary jobsites throughout the state. Additionally, the licensee periodically performs -licensed activities at locations within NRC jurisdiction under the authority of a General License pursuant to 10 CFR 150.20.
On' numerous occasions throughout 1993.and 1994, the licensee.had submitted an NRC Form 241 to this office in support of proposed activities"in the NRC states of Alaska, Delaware, Indiana, Massachusetts, and Missouri.
The inspector was informed'that 80 percent of licensed activities in NRC jurisdiction involved the use of soaled sources for gamma scanning and/or. pipe scanning in-chemical plants.
A review of records indicated tha; leak tests of sealed sources had been conducted.at the required frequencies.
Records of licensed activities documenting.the use of sealed sources had been maintained and appeared adequate for the size and scope of the program.
