Dear Mr. Shepherd:

On April 29,1998, Steve Shaffer of this office conducted a safety inspection at the Evans Area, ,

Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey, of activities authorized under the license listed above. Your l activities in NRC jurisdiction are authorized by a general license granted by 10 CFR 150.20(a).  ;

The inspection was an examination of your licensed activities as they relate to radiation safety l and to compliance with the Commission's regulations and the license conditions. The l inspection was limited to observations by the inspector, interviews with personnel, and a i selected examination of representative records related to activities within the NRC's jurisdiction. l The inspection was limited to a review of source removal from the base's pool irradiator.

Additional information regarding transportation documentation and source trsnsfer was received by Region I on May 11,1998, and June 16,1998, and reviewed as part of the inspection. The findings of the inspection were discussed with Ralph Jacobs of your organization at the  !

conclusion of the inspection. j Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were identified.

In accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules and Practices," Part 2, Title 10, Code of  !

Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter will be placed in the Public Document Room. No reply I to this letteris required.
