Dear Mr. Shepherd:
On April 29,1998, Steve Shaffer of this office conducted a safety inspection at the Evans Area,
,
Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey, of activities authorized under the license listed above. Your l
activities in NRC jurisdiction are authorized by a general license granted by 10 CFR 150.20(a).
The inspection was an examination of your licensed activities as they relate to radiation safety l
and to compliance with the Commission's regulations and the license conditions. The l
inspection was limited to observations by the inspector, interviews with personnel, and a i
selected examination of representative records related to activities within the NRC's jurisdiction.
l The inspection was limited to a review of source removal from the base's pool irradiator.
Additional information regarding transportation documentation and source trsnsfer was received by Region I on May 11,1998, and June 16,1998, and reviewed as part of the inspection. The findings of the inspection were discussed with Ralph Jacobs of your organization at the

conclusion of the inspection.
j Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were identified.
In accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules and Practices," Part 2, Title 10, Code of
