This report is in accordance with the reporting program described in Regulatory Guide 1.16, Revision 4, Part C.l .b as modified by the NRC letter to GGNS dated May 25, 1987 (MAEC-87/0131).

Provided as attachments are:

1. A narrative summary of operating experience during the year 2001,

2. Main Steam Line Safety Relief Valve challenges,

3. A tabulated annual report of personnel exposure greater than 100 mrem/yr, and

4. A summary of failed fuel indications/inspections.

SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE The following is a summary of Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS) Unit 1 operating experience for the 2001 calendar year. During 2001, the reactor was critical for 8,147.g hours with the generator on line for 8,041.l hours.

04/I 3/01 Core thermal power was reduced first and then reactor 412.0 hours0 days <br />0 hours <br />0 weeks <br />0 months <br /> manually scrammed @2000 to shut down for Refueling #I 1.

05/01101 Refueling #I 1 continued until synchronization to grid on 109.7 hours8.101852e-5 days <br />0.00194 hours <br />1.157407e-5 weeks <br />2.6635e-6 months <br /> 05/05/01. Steady, full-power operation was reached on 05/08/O 1.

08/07/O 1 Reactor automatic scram occurred at approximately 2017 upon 41.5 hours5.787037e-5 days <br />0.00139 hours <br />8.267196e-6 weeks <br />1.9025e-6 months <br /> fast CV closure when load reject relay picked up grid perturbation caused by Baxter Wilson plant tripping off grid because of lightning induced fire in switchyard. The startup was somewhat delayed because the End-Of-Cycle Recirculation Pump Trip did not function as required. Also, startup and subsequent operating data on Recirculation Pump B seal performance prompted a management decision to schedule a plant shutdown on 09/06/01 to replace RP B seal.

08/23/01 Continued degradation in RP B seal performance caused 101.8 hours9.259259e-5 days <br />0.00222 hours <br />1.322751e-5 weeks <br />3.044e-6 months <br /> increasing leakage flow and pump vibration, and prompted a conservative decision from Management to advance the schedule for shutdown to replace the seal. Reactor manually scrammed at approximately 0528. Synchronized back to grid on 08/27/01 at approximately 1117 after seal replacement.

08129/01 Problem with A Recirculation FCV Rotary Variable Differential 54.0 hours0 days <br />0 hours <br />0 weeks <br />0 months <br /> Transformer (RVDT) prevented power ascension after shifting to high speed during startup following the RP B seal outage.

The reactor was manually scrammed to shut down for repairing A Recirc FCV RVDT.
