Gentlemen:
By letter dated August 23,1993 (Serial: BSEP 93-0134), Carolina Power & Light Company.
'(CP&L) requested relief from the requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Code,Section XI in order to perform a temporary non-Code repair to service water system piping for the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Unit No.1. The request applied to a through-wall leak discovered on the Unit 16-inch Class 3 service water elbow butt-to-inlet flange weld for valve 1-SW-V116.
Repair of the service water piping was accomplished by replacing the elbow and flange in accordance with the ASME Code,Section XI, IWA/D-4000 and IWA/D-7000. This repair was completed on August 31,1993.
