| Description | \"10 CFR 50, Appendix B, Criterion III, Design Control, states, in part, that+B1
measures shall be established for the selection and review for suitability o application of materials, parts, equipment, and processes that are essential to th safety-related functions of the structures, systems and components. Contrary t this, in March 2008 for Unit 1, and March 2007 for Unit 2, the license implemented a modification to the Emergency Core Cooling System throttle valv design using a material (gas nitrided stainless steel) that was prohibited b design specifications and contributed to flow rates in the pump runout region o the high head and intermediate head safety injection pumps. This violation wa of very low safety significance because the design deficiency did not result in loss of operability or functionality of the emergency core cooling systems. Th licensee entered into the CAP as IR 908529.\ |
