No. I-17-001 January 19, 2017 CONTACT: Diane Screnci, 610-337-5330 Neil Sheehan, 610-337-5331 NRC Names New Resident Inspector at Beaver Valley Nuclear Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in King of Prussia, Pa., have selected Stacey Horvitz as the new resident inspector at Beaver Valley Power Station in Shippingport, Pa. The two-unit site is operated by FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company.

Stacey Horvitzs experience, training and commitment to safety will help the NRC fulfill its mission of protecting people and the environment by ensuring Beaver Valley meets the high standards set by the NRC, said Region I Administrator Dan Dorman.

Horvitz joined the Region I office in August 2013 and, most recently, was the Region I emergency response coordinator. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering. She also is a graduate of the NRCs Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program and has completed a rigorous inspector qualification program. She has served as an acting resident inspector at three reactors in the Northeastern United States.

Horvitz joins Senior Resident Inspector Jim Krafty at Beaver Valley. Each commercial nuclear power plant site in the United States has at least two resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations at the plant. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring significant work projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public.
