1.Reactorcoreisolation coolingsystem(RCIC).2.Standbyliquidcontrolsystem{SLCS).3.RHRshutdowncoolingmode(RSCM).4.Remoteshutdownsystem{RSS).Thesourcesthatsupplypowertothesafeshutdownsystemsoriginate fromonsiteac/dcsafety-related buses.RefertoChapter8foracompletediscussion ofthesafety-related powersources.7.4.1.1ReactorCoreIsolation CoolingSystemSstemFunctionTheRCICsystemisdesignedtoassurethatsufficient reactorwaterinventory ismaintained inthereactorvesselthusassuringcontinuity ofcorecooling.Reactorvesselwaterismaintained orsupplemented byRCICsystemduringthefollowing conditions:

1.Whenthereactorvesselisisolatedandmaintained inthehotstandbycondition.

Whenthereactorvesselisisolatedandaccompanied byalossofnormalcoolantflowfromthereactorfeedwater system.Whenacompleteplantshutdownunderconditions oflossofnormalfeedwater systemisstartedbeforethereactorisdepressurized toalevelwherethereactorshutdowncoolingmodeoftheRHRsystemcanbeplacedintooperation.

~0 4kResonAsshownonFSARFigure9B.4-2,theapproachusedforNMP2issimilartothatdescribed above.Thereactoriseithermanuallyorautomatically scramed.Thenoneoffourtrainsareusedtoprovidemakeupwateranddecayheatremoval.EitherHPCSorRCICisusedforhighpressuremakeup.IfablowdownweretooccureitherthroughtheADSorreliefvalves,makeupwouldbeprovidedusingthelowpressure systems(LPCSorLPCI);Additionally, decayheatremovalisprovidedbytheRHRsystem.Intheeventofafireinthecontrolroomorrelayroomwhichforcesevacuation ofthecontrolroom,sufficient equipment toenablehotandcoldshutdownisprovidedattheremoteshutdownpanels(FSARSection7.4)andthroughtheuseoflocalcontrol.Viability ofthesecircuitsisassuredbytheuseoftransferswitcheswhicnelectrically isolatethecontrolroomandtransfercontroltothelocalpanelsandtheremoteshutdownpanels.Redundant andisolatedfusesareprovided(intheemergencyswitchgear rooms)tomaintainthepowersourcetothesecircuits.

12.Thedescription ofthesystemsorportionsthereofusedtoprovidetheshutdowncapability andmodifications requiredtoachievealternate shutdowncapability ifrequired.
