SUMMARY
OF TELECOMMUNICATION WITH ENTERGY OPERATIONS INC.
(ENTERGY) TO DISCUSS THE RESPONSE TO THE SEVERE ACCIDENT MITIGATION ALTERNATIVES (SAMA) REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (RAI)
On April 6, 2004, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff (the staff) and its contractors from Information Systems Laboratory (ISL) conducted a conference call with representatives from Entergy to discuss the Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 2 (ANO-2) SAMA RAI responses. Enclosure 1 is the list of participants. The conference call was held to clarify the requests for additional information forwarded to Entergy by letter dated February 24, 2004.
Entergy agreed to provide additional clarification to several proposed RAI responses. In the response for Question 1d, the applicant will include a description of how their probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) has changed since the peer review was prepared and since earlier staff reviews were conducted PRA was used to support license amendment requests. In the response for Question 5e, the applicant will include a breakdown of the 99 SAMAs eliminated in the initial screening of potential SAMAs. Questions 7 and 8 were the focus of the discussion, summary which the NRC staff noted that based on the estimated fire core damage frequency, a larger multiplier than used in Entergys analysis might be justified. The applicant indicated that they will consider supplementing their response in this area to support their current analysis.
No staff decisions were made during the telephone conference. The applicant indicated that they plan to submit the responses to the RAIs by April 23, 2004.
