VTVYS1 05000271 LER 79-4/3L EVENT DESCRIPTION AND PROBABLE CONSEOUENCES During routine calibration of the torus level trausmitter LT 16-19-38A, it was determined that the instrument could not be calibrated to the speci-fied limits of Tech. Spec. Table 3.2.1.

The EPCI System was declared in-operable and alternate testing in accordance with Tech. Spec. 3.5.E.2 was initiated.

Within approximately 4 hours4.62963e-5 days
0.00111 hours
6.613757e-6 weeks
1.522e-6 months
from the time of discovery, the trans-mitter was returned to ser/ ice and alternate testing was secured.

Based on the fact that the redundant torus water level instrumenta-tion channel was operable, it was concluded that there were no adverse consequences to the public health or safety as a result of this event.

There were no previous reportable occurrences of this type.

CAUSE DESCRIPTION AND CORRECTIVE ACTION The apparent cause of this event appears to be an accumulation of rust and crud buildup in the transmitter capsule cavity.

Corrective action was to replace the transmitter with a spare of like kind.
