3 Gentlemen:

g Reuter-Stokes requests to amend NRC License Number SNM-18?6 according to 10CFR70.34.

Under the current provisions of condition 10.A.,

B.,

and C.,

Reuter-Stokes fission counters and chambers containing special nuclear material may be distributed with a maximum quantity of 4 grams per device. The proposed amendment involves an addition to the existing conditions under provision 10, a new device model will be included so that provision 10 will ncw read as follows:

10. The following Reuter-Stokes fission counters and chambers containing special nuclear material may be distributed:

Maximum Quantity Device Model No.

Ohio 44087 January 20, 1986 Page 2 - continued The requested addition to the license will make it possible to develop model RS-P6-1596-201 long fission counter, which has an increased total quantity of U-235 incorporated into its design. Modification to the amount of U-235 was necessary for achieving greater sensitivities. The first developed product of this device will be manufactured for the Department of Energy per contract number 01-83ER80088.00.

Enclosed is a check for $120.00, as specified in fee category 1K. Also enclosed for your review are the preliminary specifications and drawing of the fission counter. If you find that you need further information, please call or write.
